Networking Wednesday: A First Timer’s View

After attending his first JCI event on Wednesday 26 February 2014, we asked Louis Simms to write a few words on his experience and what people thinking of coming along to a JCI Sheffield event can expect…

I was invited by a friend 24 hours before attending my first JCI networking event. I didn’t know what to expect as I have only been in business for around 4 week and haven’t participated in many networking events. I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to meet likeminded people.

When I arrived I felt a little nervous about approaching people and what there reaction would be towards me. However 10 minutes in I felt like part of the JCI family as I was welcomed in with open arms. Everyone was a pleasure to talk. The range of skills and knowledge within the JCI team was impressive and could help anyone who is looking to get into business.

I didn’t realise that members of JCI were volunteers yet have jobs as well. It’s a very admirable thing that they are doing going out to help the local community.

I hope this is something that I can be a part of in the near future. They are one of the most supportive groups of people I’ve met to date, helping me with my questions and recommending things that I wouldn’t have even thought of. Not to mention they also go on some pretty decent trips like their upcoming Gripple tour which I hope to attend.

I would recommend people to sign up. Especially students in the Sheffield region as it could be highly beneficial to your future career.

Thanks Louis! If you are thinking about joining JCI please get in touch or pop along to one of our upcoming events.
